State Service has submitted a project proposal in the field of biosafety and biosecurity

Volodymyr Lapa, Chairman of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, presented a project proposal for the development of biosafety in Ukraine in the field of human and animal health.

The presentation took place at the next meeting of the Seven Initiative "Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction" working group in Rome (Italy).

  • The project proposal was developed jointly with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Consumer Service, the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Medical Sciences. The project from Ukraine is aimed at: improving the Biorisk management system, introducing effective monitoring of human and animal diseases, establishing rapid response measures in emergency situations, ensuring the storage of pathogens in accordance with international rules, reducing the risks of spreading especially dangerous animal and human diseases, and the like.

    In addition, the project program is aimed at improving the conditions of bioprotection and physical protection in laboratories, depositories of viral and bacterial pathogens at research institutions of the State Consumer Service of Ukraine and the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences, as well as at improving the level of personnel training for the implementation of these methodologies. The project is designed for three years and for its implementation, Ukraine expects to attract donor countries.
