Pigeons of agaran (Turkmen)

Elite pigeons agarana deserve special attention of professional poultry farmers and feathery lovers. The breed has some differences from other varieties, and it’s not even possible to compare them with ordinary "urban" pigeons.

A bit of history

Agarana are considered to be distant relatives of Iranian birds, which in the XVI century from the East (western Afghanistan), the nomads brought to the territory of present Turkmenistan. At the same time, these birds first began to appear in the annals. Nowadays, they are widely distributed throughout the territory of the Turkmen region, where they are national treasure, partly in Pakistan and in other parts of Asia, as well as in Europe. In Russia, agaranas first appeared in the 50s of the last century, where their well-known breeders Streltsovs quickly conquered with their unusual appearance and skills. And already in the 60s they became an adornment of many Moscow exhibitions.

Did you know? Pigeons are able to cover a distance of 900 km daily, reaching a speed of up to 70 km / h. A sporting pigeon flying at a speed of 1.58 km / min is capable of overtaking even the swift swift.

Exterior

The breed of pigeons agarana inherent powerful muscles and large wings. They significantly differ in appearance from other breeds in their exterior features:

  • the breast is big and bulging;
  • developed muscles, average body size;
  • massive, flowing body;
  • large and long wings slightly touching the tail section;
  • tail feathers (tail), there are from 10 to 13 pieces;
  • legs covered with neat feathers (length 5-10 cm);
  • straight, slightly elongated neck;
  • ceramum medium size;
  • the beak is not sharp, thin and slightly obtuse (females are thinner), located perpendicular to the forehead;
  • the head is massive, round in shape without different applications (decorations).

Color

Flight features

Perhaps the brightest dignity that the agarans possess is their delightful flying qualities. It is because of them that these birds are considered fighting. Being in the air, the pigeon can vertically hang and rotate around its axis, while flapping its wings loudly. The flight itself can continue, according to the pigeon’s standards, not for long, at about 4 hours, but during all this time people below will certainly get a lot of aesthetic pleasure from the virtuoso performance of aerial tumbles.

Departures departures:

  • in an inclined rack and the same with the spiral turns of the body;
  • in a curved stance, when take-off is carried out, as it were, with your back upward with your legs bent forward;
  • with turning the paws during a curved exit: the impression that the pigeon is walking upwards;
  • with the implementation of several spiral rotations in the inclined rack, after which the agar stops and makes a full, 360 degrees turn.

The difficulty of breeding at home

Unfortunately, agarunam is not characterized by a large increase, they are not considered to be particularly prolific, which explains the small number of their population. In one season, such a pair of pigeons, even with excellent health, can produce only 3 chicks, often less. Turkmen fighting birds are rather unpretentious in everyday life, the ration of food is mostly similar to the diet of their relatives.

Important! During periods of breeding and exercise in the sky, the bird menu should be enriched with fiber, vitamins and plenty of protein foods.
In addition to these comments, breeders should pay attention to the following nuances of breeding:

  • the dove has a well developed instinct of the hen;
  • adult pigeons carefully fatten their young;
  • the female and male care for the chicks together;
  • the chosen pair, corresponding in all parameters (flight qualities) to each other, must be placed in one cage during the breeding season;
  • Chicks from one month of age should be gradually introduced complementary foods, initially consisting of small insects and kernels. At the same age, the first vaccination should take place;
  • at 2 months, chicks are already able to fly independently;
  • per year agarana become sexually mature.
These birds can be easily kept in dovecote or street enclosures, not forgetting to keep it clean and to change the water in drinking bowls. Agararans will not conflict with their neighbors if members of the pigeon family are added to the aviary. However, it is still possible to monitor carefully the behavior inside the “dwelling” after the shares — if the birds make a fight, the neighbors of the Turkmen pigeons can suffer greatly.
Important! Professional poultry farmers who breed and maintain agarana strongly discourage breeders from leaving such pigeons for a long time in an aviary. Otherwise, they cease to fly high, and then completely wean from high flights, limiting themselves to the fence and the roof of the house.

Advantages and disadvantages

Agaranas are highly valued by professional breeders around the world for their undeniable merits:

  • superior flight abilities;
  • original, aesthetic color;
  • the ability of females to ideally perform their maternal duties, to care for and protect offspring;
  • carelessness and simplicity in care.

But, like every bird, the agaran has its minuses, albeit minor ones:

  • prolonged stay in the aviary causes pigeons to experience severe discomfort and even get sick. Their bodies are not adapted to life without a free sky;
  • during the execution of their ups and tricks, the pigeon may not keep balance, lose control of the body, fall and break;
  • few populations.
Did you know? According to the annals, even Genghis Khan and Julius Caesar used the ability of pigeons to carry letters. And in the Middle Ages, a good carrier pigeon was equal in price to a thoroughbred stallion.
In terms of communicating with people, agaranas are rather unsightly and pleasant. But on the hands of even to his master often go reluctantly. However, they are happy to compensate for this moment with bright air pirouettes for a long time.
