The Russian Ministry of Agriculture revised its grain export forecast for the current agricultural season. Speaking at the G20 summit in Berlin, Alexander Tkachev said that Russia could supply up to 35-37 million tons of grain to the international market.
According to the minister, the volume of Russian exports will be determined by world prices for major crops, the ratio of the ruble to the US dollar and the logistics costs of road and rail transport. The total export potential is expected to reach 40 million tons, says Tkachev. According to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, this is the amount of grain that Russia can sell abroad without damaging the domestic market.
The Federal Customs Service reports that, as of January, grain exports to Russia amounted to 21.28 million tons, which is 0.3% less than in the same period last year. At the same time, wheat exports, by contrast, increased by 4.8% to 16,734 million tons.
