Every gardener is convinced that the grown vegetables in the garden should be environmentally friendly. Therefore, many do not use chemical fertilizers in their gardens. For a good potato harvest it is very important that the soil is not depleted.
Important! Potatoes can grow in one place for 4 years. After that, the landing of the potatoes need to be changed. Otherwise, you can get a hotbed of harmful microorganisms and pathogens that will harm your crop.
If you categorically reject the use of chemical fertilizers, green mans will come to the rescue (they decompose quickly and do not leave harmful substances). Using sideratov can increase the yield of your potatoes on the site.
The best siderata for potatoes
Siderata can be annual plants with a well-branched root system.: peas, sweet clover, lupine, sardella, alfalfa, chickpeas, beans, lentils, soybeans.
The green manure roots, loosening the soil, improve its structure, and tops fertilize and mulch the soil. Siderats guarantee the replenishment of minerals in the soil on which the planting of potatoes is planned.
Important! A good potato crop requires nitrogen and phosphorus. In legumes (if used as a green manure) of these substances abound.
A good siderat for potatoes (albeit with a lower percentage of nitrogen) is rape, mustard, colza, fatselia, oats, rye, wheat. These cultures protect the soil from weathering, dehydration, enrich with useful minerals. When winter sowing, these plants will save the soil from deep freezing and delay the snow.
Did you know? It is best to use a combination of green manure crops: crops with a high percentage of nitrogen and plants enriched minerals. Such a solution is guaranteed to increase yield.
How to sow siderata under potatoes
Before planting siderats, the soil is well loosened - the plants must fully develop and give a sufficient amount of green mass.
Important! 1.5 - 2 kg of seeds are sown per 1 hundred square meter.
Siderates for potatoes are sown in autumn 1.5 months before the onset of cold weather - in September. The sideratov seeds (best of all, cereals - they tolerate winter well) are scattered on the surface of the plot, and then plowed in with a rake. You can plant seeds in shallow grooves (2-3 cm deep).
Fresh sowing is covered with a thin layer of compost. In May, siderats are harvested and potatoes are planted in their place..
If sowing is planned in the spring, the green manure should fall into the ground in late April - early May (the ground should warm up by 3-5 cm). Very good mix of spring sedertov: oats, fatsely, white mustard.
2 weeks before planting potatoes, siderats are cut by a flat-cutter and they dig up the soil to a depth of 8-16 cm. During this time, the green mass will have time to be rotten and become a good fertilizer.
Important! Do not allow flowering and education on the siderata seeds! If you do not remove siderata on time, then instead of using them you will get harm - weeds will appear.
Potatoes on the site, fertilized with sideratami, planted to a depth of 5-6 cm. Practiced planting potatoes with mustard. This method of landing has several advantages: mustard loosens the soil, “clogs” weeds, retains moisture, frightens off pests.
When the potato leaves and mustard are equal in height, mustard must be removedso that potatoes can fully develop. Cut plants can be left in the aisle, and can be taken out in the compost pit.
Did you know? 3 kg of green mass of green manure replace 1.5 kg of manure. The use of green manure in potato cultivation allows you to harvest more than 50 kg of crop from a plot more than from the same plot without sideration.
Important! If the green mass is too much, then it starts to turn sour, and not decompose. If sideratov sprouted a lot - make part in the compost pit.
Planting potatoes after sideratov
In 2 weeks after harvesting sideratov you can start planting potatoes. This time is enough for the green biomass, slightly stuck in the ground, to rot and enrich the earth with minerals.
Tubers are planted in pits (or grooves) to a depth of 5-7 cm. For continuous soil loosening, buckwheat or mustard over potatoes is used. Such a neighborhood will allow the soil to be loosened by siderates.
Buckwheat is able to reduce the acidity of the soil, to enrich the soil with phosphorus, potassium, and organic components. But when the tops of the potatoes become equal in height with sideratami, the latter are pruned (the potatoes must develop well).
Important! Remember the crop rotation: the green manure on the site every year apply different - alternate cultures.
What is sown after harvesting
In order to increase the future harvest on the site, it is recommended to use siderats immediately after harvesting potatoes.
The soil is sown for winter oats, peas, white mustard. In spring, these plants are cut. They can be left on the garden, slightly prikopav or sprinkled with earth. Green manure rot and become a good fertilizer for potatoes.
It should be remembered that the potato greatly depletes the soil on which it grows. That is why you have to enrich the soil with environmentally friendly fertilizers for the next planting season.
Did you know? If siderats and the main crop belong to the same family, then they should not be grown on the same plot.
