Speaking at a meeting on import regulations for plant protection products, Jambulat Khatuov, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia, said that the department would draw up new rules for pesticides imported into the Russian Federation and EurAsEC. He also explained that stricter rules would help limit the flow of pesticides to the Russian market. In the first 10 months of 2016, the import of chemicals into the territory of the Russian Federation increased by 20% compared to the same period a year earlier. In addition, it continues to grow.
As of today, import customs duties for plant protection products are set at the maximum level allowed by the World Trade Organization. Foreign chemicals are not allowed into the territory of the Russian Federation without permission and certificates from the Ministry of Agriculture. First of all, the new import rules for plant protection products should improve the control of counterfeit products. In particular, registration requirements for product testing will be tightened.
"We want to be sure that only safe plant protection products are imported into our country, we will detect counterfeit and restrain its imports," said the first deputy minister. In addition, Khatuov added that the Ministry of Agriculture will create a list of domestic producers of pesticides that supply competitive products and provide them with appropriate support.
