Perennial bulbous plant Amazonian lily (Euharis): home care, photos, transplanting and reproduction

A real decoration of the apartment can be euharis (Amazonian lily).

Euharis or euharis (graceful, charming) is a perennial bulbous plant of the Amarilis family.

In the wild, it is found in the tropical rainforests of the Amazon.

At the end of the 19th century, it was introduced to Europe and has been one of the most popular indoor and garden plants ever since.

Description

Tropical beauty lily immediately attracts attention due to the delicate elegant flowers in appearance resembling a garden daffodil.

Flowers are collected in inflorescences (from 4 to 8 buds in each) and are located on tall peduncle arrows.

Their color range is not too diverse, most varieties form snow-white inflorescences, flowers of bluish and cream shades are extremely rare.

Euharis sheets of large lanceolate shape, in length can reach half a meter.

The color of the sheet plate is dark green with a glossy shine.

Of the 20 species of euharis in room culture, most often there are three: large-flowered, snow-white and Sander.

Home care

In room conditions euharis cultivated for several decades. During this time, he has adapted sufficiently to various growing conditions. Euharis is unpretentious, not capricious, for which he enjoys love at florist. Let us consider in detail how to carry out home care for Euharis.

With proper care and suitable plant conditions (as close to natural) Amazonian daffodil will please with abundant flowering (blooms 2 times a year) and decorative.

Lighting

The forest plant euharis does not like bright sunshine.

Diffused soft light and partial shade - this is the most suitable for him lighting.

You can settle a flower on the east or west window sill.

In the summer of a green household, it is advisable to walk in the garden or on the loggia (balcony), be sure to touch its leaves from the sun.

IMPORTANT! The direct rays of the sun can burn the sheet plates of the euharis, as a result of which they will change color and become covered with ugly brown spots.

Temperature conditions

Tropical lily loves heat. At temperatures below 18 degrees Celsius, the flower will hurt, wither and stop blooming.

TIP: The optimum temperature for euharis in summer (during the period of active growth) is from 25 to 30 degrees, in winter (even in the period of rest) from 18 to 23 degrees.

Draft flower also does not approve, as well as temperature drops. This is desirable to remember, bringing it to fresh air.

In August, it is noticeably colder in the evening, so a tender plant should not be left to spend the night outside the house.

Watering

This process requires special attention.

The main thing is not to re-moisten the soil, but also to prevent drought.

Improper irrigation can lead to rotting of the roots, lack of flowering, as well as drying and yellowing of the leaf plates. More about what to do if the leaves turn yellow and die, the bulb is rotting, the plant does not bloom, and what diseases and pests can destroy Euharis, you can find out here.

Watering should be moderate.

The water used is well settled at room temperature. The fact that the flower wants to drink will tell the top layer of the substrate - it will be dry.

Spray the plant should be often (after all, the humid tropics are the birthplace of the Amazon daffodil) with warm water, excluding moisture on the flowers.

IMPORTANT! During the rest period (most often, the rest time is in April and October), watering the plant should be reduced to a minimum. The soil should be semi-dry.

Stage rest (rest) lasts about a month. The dormant period of the euharis begins as soon as the last inflorescence fades. At this time, the plant is cleaned in a cool, shaded place. Stop feeding, rarely watered.

Rest is very important for the flower, during this time it is gaining strength and preparing for further growth and flowering.

Graft and ground

How to choose the right tank for landing?

The euharis pot should be tall and narrow.

It is not recommended to take a very spacious pot, as in this case, the flower will throw all the forces on the development of the bulb, trying to fill the whole space with its roots.

Close pots push your green pet to bloom and grow its aerial parts.

The plant is transplanted infrequently, about once every four years (in March).

During this period, the pot is completely filled with bulbs and transplant euharis becomes necessary.

IMPORTANT: Child bulbs should not be separated from the mother (unless you intend to propagate the flower), as the plant may stop blooming.

The old earthen clod is retained, transferred to a new container (the new pot should be slightly larger than the previous one, approximately 20%), placed on a layer of expanded clay drainage, sprinkled with fresh soil and well tamped.

TIP: The soil should be slightly acidic, loose and consist of: leafy earth, peaty earth, sand and compost in equal parts. At the bottom of the pot must be present small holes in order to prevent stagnant moisture.

Breeding

Euharis propagated by seed and division.

The first method is very time consuming and rarely gives positive results. Therefore, experienced growers prefer the second, more reliable method.

The euharis shrub is usually divided during transplantation in such a way that the young daughter plant has at least four onions.

This will help the flower to adapt more quickly in the new pot, acquire new babies and bloom in the same year.

TIP: If the bulbs are missing leaves, it must be placed in a container at a shallow depth, without falling asleep with the top of the earth. After transplantation should be postponed with watering for about a week.

Top dressing

Euharis welcomes additional nutrition and responds well to organic fertilizers. It can be fed throughout the growing season (except for the resting stage) with a liquid fertilizer for bulbous and flowering plants:

Bloom

With good care, euharis will please you with lush and long flowering. Amazonian lily blooms about 2 times a year - in winter and autumn.

It is very important to observe the correct mode of watering during this period, not allowing excessive moisture. Between irrigation the soil should dry well.

Benefit and harm

Euharis is considered a good ecologist, it is inherent in the ability to absorb harmful substances, purify the air and saturate the room with oxygen.

The plant has a strong positive energy, a beneficial effect on all living in the apartment, relieving them of depression and charging them with vigor.

The energy they release is sometimes so strong that the flowers that are with the euharis in the neighborhood start to wither and die.

Cohabitation with this plant is not useful to every green household.

White flowers of tropical narcissus have long been considered a powerful talisman for brides. To protect against the evil eye, envy and damage to the girls before the wedding weave them into their hair.

IMPORTANT! Euharis flowers, like many plants of the Amarilis family, contain poisonous alkaloids. In this regard, it is not recommended to place the flower in the room of the child, as well as on the floor, where pets and small children can have free access!

This luxurious flower, also called the Amazon lily: care at home for him, even a novice amateur grower can do it. She is unpretentious and grateful for the love and care of luxurious blooms.
