Milk and dairy products fell in price - experts

In spite of the fact that stabilization was expected on the dairy products market, in February of the current year milk, regardless of the variety, and the products made from it, fell sharply in price.

This is indicated by experts of the Association of Milk Producers. According to the analyst of the Association Yana Muzychenko, price changes are different for different types of milk. Thus, the grade "extra" fell in price by 4 kopecks per liter, while the "highest" grade fell by 25 kopecks.

  • The demand for milk decreases, and this means that the volume of perishable products that remain in the warehouses of manufacturers, everything is growing. In addition, there is a link between lower prices and stabilization of the Ukrainian currency. The dependence of export volumes on the hryvnia price is an external factor in reducing the cost of milk. Refusal of dairy products by the population during the period of fasting remains internal. Ukraine is characterized by a fall in prices in these months, as consumption and sales of dairy products decrease.

    The forecasts of experts are based on the similarity of the situation in the milk market with last year’s scenario. In 2018, there was also a drop in milk prices in early spring, and the recovery of the balance between supply and demand and the stabilization of the market occurred in June-July. Although it should be borne in mind that the difference between the prices of last year and those that are observed now amounts to almost - 3%.
